What is this training course about?
If a friend or colleague was suffering from a mental health condition, would you be able to recognise the signs? And if they were at a point of crisis, would you know how to help them?
FirstAidPro Darwin’s Mental Health First Aid training is designed to provide those skills. The course will teach you the fundamentals of recognising and responding to a range of mental health issues and what to do in severe cases of mental health distress. It will also show you how and when to seek outside assistance and where to go for help. The course is delivered by highly qualified trainers and fully accredited by Mental Health First Aid Australia (MHFA).
It’s estimated that at some point in their lives, up to 45% of Australians (according to the ABS) will struggle with some form of mental health disorder. With figures that high, it’s not a matter of if you encounter someone struggling with mental health, so much as when you do. If it’s one of your close friends or loved ones, will you be able to see it? And would you know how to provide mental health first aid to them when they’re in crisis?
FirstAidPro Darwin takes an evidence-based approach to Mental Health First Aid, training you to recognise and respond appropriately to the signs of mental health distress – and showing you what help is available when you need it. Our Mental Health First Aid course will provide you with the knowledge and tools to help a colleague or family member struggling with common mental health issues.
If you’re in a professional leadership role, these skills are particularly valuable, teaching you to watch for signs of depression, anxiety, and other conditions in the people you lead. Likewise, these skills are incredibly useful for medical and care professionals – sometimes it’s hard to help someone if significant mental health issues are going on in the background.
For FirstAidPro Darwin, ensuring the safety and welfare of our students is one of our highest priorities. We go to great lengths to ensure our training follows best practices for Covid-19 safety and applies good infection control measures. When taking part in a FirstAidPro Darwin training course, please be respectful of this and follow all Covid-safe procedures – including sign-in sheets, PPE (including gloves and masks), and social distancing measures. Also, if you’re unwell or experiencing any flu-like symptoms, we ask that you do not attend. Simply contact us to reschedule your training to another date – normally at no extra cost.

12-hour Standard MHFA Course
The Mental Health First Aid course run by FirstAidPro Darwin is built around the action plan and training manual developed by Mental Health First Aid Australia (MHFA). The training will equip you to identify the signs of – and respond appropriately to – many common mental health conditions. You’ll also learn what services are available to help and how to access those services.
The training also raises awareness around the issues of mental health and how significant early intervention can be. It will help safeguard those around you – whether that’s colleagues, friends or family – and provide them with the support and assistance they need. Many people delay seeking help for mental health issues and try to “push through”. With Mental Health First Aid training, you can give them the advice they need about seeking help – or know when to seek it on their behalf.
