What You'll Learn: Medication Administration Skills & Knowledge

Throughout your medication administration course you’ll come to understand vital medication information and knowledge from yourself-paced online learning. During your practical training you’ll develop important real-world skills regarding the safe administration of  medication, and conclude your course with a competency assessment.  

Among the medication administration  skills you’ll have acquired at the conclusion of your course, you will be able to:
  • Understand your responsibilities, including regulations and any organisational guidelines behind safely administering medication to clients.
  • Prepare the administration of medication by complying with infection prevention and control procedures.
  • Understand various medication terminologies, shorthand terms, abbreviations, acronyms, and jargon.
  • Be conscious of the different types of medications and the different handling and administration techniques behind each.
  • Instruct and support clients in self-administering medication.
  • Complete medication documentation and records including but not limited to a medication log.
  • Safely use medication facilities and a variety of medication equipment.
  • Manage medication schedules to ensure correct dosages are taken at correct times, by the correct person, and in the correct manner

Course Delivery:

The medication administration training course is delivered through a combined blend of theory and practice across a self-paced online learning component followed by three hours of in-person practical training. Depending on how soon you can complete, you may be able to complete your training in only a day, but that possibility is up to you.

The in-person portion of your medication administration training can take place at our Darwin training venue located at Level 5, 116 The Esplanade, Darwin.

Entry Requirements

There are no prior academic requirements necessary to attend a medication administration course. At the minimum, attendees must possess basic literacy and numeracy skills, and the physical capability to interact with clients and provide them with medication, operate medication equipment and to store said equipment correctly after use.

Attendees will also require a device with an internet connection to complete the at-home eLearning and theoretical portions of their training.

Same Day Certification

When you successfully complete our medication administration training you will receive same day certification. While you can expect to receive the actual, physical certificate within a 24 hour period, you’ll be immediately qualified to utilise what you’ve learned. 

The immediate validation of your skills increases students’ confidence in their new knowledge. It also means students are able to apply for jobs in healthcare or progress in their career as soon as possible.
